You do not need to know the old password to set a new one.
It works offline, that is, you have to shutdown your computer and boot off a floppydisk or CD. The bootdisk includes stuff to access NTFS and FAT/FAT32 partitions and scripts to glue the whole thing together.

The ISO must be burned to a CD or Flash drive.

When it is booted, a mini version of linux starts which allows the
administrator password to be reset. useful if you need to work on a

Before download, read the easy instruction:
1. Download Bitdefender 2008 Total Security/Antivirus (Don’t Install It Yet)
2. Go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\ and right click the “Hosts” file –> Select Properties
3. Untick read-only and apply.
4. Now open the “hosts” file with notepad. (Start->Run->notepad) ADD: 127.0.0.1 update.bitdefender.com

Check wether you’ve done it right or wrong until the 4th step:

Then save and close host file.
5. Ok, now install Bitdefender
6. After your done, they’re should be a registeration wizard that pops up.
